Made in 5 minutes, with just a few pantry staples, this Brownie in a mug recipe is going to be your new go to midnight (or any time!) snack.

Ever get that chocolaty, fudgy craving late at night? Or after dinner when all the dishes are done and you don’t want to make a mess? Not just me? Enter this Mug Brownie. The perfect solution to all your snacking needs. Here I’ll show you step by step how to make a brownie in a mug.

What is a brownie in a mug?

A brownie in a mug is a single serving brownie treat, made directly in a mug.

It is a great solution for when you want a brownie, but don’t want to bake a whole batch of brownies.

You do not need to bake a brownie in a mug in the oven. Using a regular coffee mug you can make a real brownie in the microwave!

Another benefit of a brownie in a mug is that the whole recipe is made directly in the mug so there is very minimal clean up.

Why you should make this Brownie in a Mug:

There are so many instances in my life when I need some chocolate. You know? These days, during quarantine, even more than normal.

But sometimes, baking is just too much of a production (and a mess). That’s when I make one of these Brownies in a mug. Gather the few basic ingredients in a mug and you’re 1 minute away from all your brownie dreams.

The only dishes you’ll have to wash from making this recipe are a 1 Tablespoon measuring spoon, a fork and a mug!

This brownie is fudgy, chocolaty and can very easily be made vegan.

Ingredients:

The ingredient list is short and is composed of basic pantry items that most of you should have at home.

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Salt
  • Oil (or butter)
  • Milk (or non-dairy alternative)
  • Optional: Chocolate chips, Flaky sea salt

How to make a brownie in a mug:

  1. Make sure you are using a large enough mug. Your mug should be a minimum of 10 oz, but 12 oz mugs work best.
  2. First measure out your dry ingredients directly into the mug. Use the same measuring spoon for all the ingredients to save on clean up at the end.
  3. Now be sure to mix the dry ingredients well. You can use a fork or a mini whisk if you have. You want to be sure all the ingredients are completely combined before adding the wet ingredients.
  4. Next you’ll add your milk and oil (or butter) and mix well.
  5. If you are using chocolate chips you can add them now. I like to keep them all at the top for a melty chocolaty layer that is kind of like a frosting. But you can mix them in if you want those extra pockets of chocolate in every bite.
  6. Place the mug in the microwave for 1 minute. Take it out carefully (the mug may be hot) and check to top. If you see it is a little wet on top return to the microwave for 30 more seconds.
  7. Take it out and enjoy! It’s especially delicious with a scoop of ice cream or some whipped cream on top.

How to make this Brownie in a Mug Vegan:

This recipe can be made vegan or not very easily. For a vegan version use canola oil in place of the butter and any non-dairy milk alternative of your choice in place of milk.

Other add-ins:

In this recipe I added chocolate chips to the brownie batter before baking but you can use your imagination and add in other fun things that you like. Here are some ideas:

  • White chocolate chunks or chips
  • Broken Pretzels for a salty/sweet mix
  • Chopped Oreo cookies
  • Peanut butter
  • Cookie butter
  • Chopped nuts of your choice

Equipment

  • Microwave
  • Large mug

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • pinch salt
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ Tbsp canola oil or butter
  • 3 Tbsp milk or non-dairy alternative

Optional

  • chocolate chips
  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  • Place sugar, flour, salt and cocoa in a large mug and mix with a fork.
  • Add in oil and milk and mix well to combine.
  • If using, top the brownie mixture with some chocolate chips or other add-ins and mix in.
  • Place mug in the microwave for 1 minute.
  • Remove from microwave and top with some flaky sea salt if using.

Notes

This single serving of Brownie goes great with a scoop of ice cream and/or whipped cream!
This mug brownie is easily made vegan with canola oil in place of butter and non-dairy milk in place of regular milk.
Get creative with add-ins. You can use chopped nuts, oreo cookies, peanut butter, white chocolate and more.

Wow, can’t believe tonight is the last night of Pesach (for us 🇮🇱 at least!). We prepare so much for this one week and then it’s just over so quickly 😅

These gluten free chocolate chip sticks were a huge hit this holiday and today as I was wrapping up this last batch I baked today I just knew I needed to snap a few photos. If you made them this week let me know below, I love to hear from you !

A poll in my stories yesterday was at 50/50 most of the time between people sad to see Passover ending and people excited to get back to routine, and I so relate! I’m both sad and excited too. It’s been a really fun and chill week, but getting back to real life def has its appeal 😅.

These fudgy brownies are gluten free and completely flourless. BUT they are not only for Passover! They’re so good you’ll want to make them year round.

״אבואלה״, סבתי המרוקאית ז״ל, הייתה מכינה את הלחמניות האלו בכל יום לילדים, והניחה הפתעה מתוקה באמצע: קוביית שוקולד. 
אני הכנתי את המתכון המקורי שלה (עם כמה שינויים קטנים), בתבנית לחם נונסטיק מבית @roso_israel, והילדים שלי מאוד אוהבים!

בשיתוף @israeli_kitchen ורשת @cook_and_bake_il 
🍞מתכון🍞
לחמניות עם שוקולד

המצרכים (לתבנית אינגליש קייק):
1 כוס מים פושרים או מיץ תפוחים
2 כפות שמרים יבשים
3 כפות סוכר לבן
⅓ כוס שמן
חצי כפית מלח
1 ביצה
3.5 -4 כוסות קמח
1 חלמון להברשה
סוכר גבישי

למילוי:
150 ג׳ שוקולד חלב או מריר (קוביות)

אופן ההכנה:
בקערת מיקסר ערבבו את המים, שמרים, סוכר ושמן. 
הוסיפו את המלח והביצה ואז בהדרגה את הקמח.
ללוש 2-3 דקות עד לקבלת בצק חלק.
חלקו את הבצק ל-12 כדורים שווים, בערך 85 ג׳ כל אחד.
באמצע כל כדורי הניחו 2 ריבועי שוקולד וגלגלו את הכדור בחזרה.
הניחו את כל הכדורים בתבנית לחם נונסטיק של רוסו גלייז, כסו ותנו לתפוח למשך 20-30 דקות.
חממו תנור ל-200 מעלות.
בקערה קטנה ערבבו חלמון עם קצת מים והברישו על הלחם. פיזרו סוכר גבישי מעל.
הכניסו את הלחם לתוך התנור החם, לאפות למשך 20-30 דקות עד לקבלת צבע זהב.

As of yesterday at this time I had no costume plans and was bumming out.

I love Purim, I love coming up with cute / fun costume ideas, running around town looking forward the different components and then hot gluing into the night... ahhh good times 😅🙌🏻

Obviously this year threw me for a loop. But my teens and I put our heads together and scoured Pinterest. My criteria was: EASY, EASY, EASY and cute (and easy!).

So happy we stumbled on this one bc it’s just PERFECT for our family 😂🍟

WHAT A WEEK (ok two weeks). It’s been pretty rocky for my family and I am so thankful that we are all feeling great now, Thank God.

I wasn’t sure what Purim would look like for us this year, and to be honest I still don’t know. 

But I do know that hamentashen will be involved bc yum.

I created these hamentashen a few weeks ago when I was working on a valentines video for a client and I came across this amazing raspberry chocolate. It tasted SO good I just knew I wanted it on my hamentashen 🤣

All the deets are up on the blog. If you can’t find this specific chocolate, no worries, you can use ruby chocolate for the pink or even white chocolate! 

Even though I loveeee how these came out (delish!) I think I’m always going to be team classic hamentashen 😅 what about you? Team Fancy or classic?

My baby is 7 today and you can say I’m having all the feels. 
But the main one is exhaustion (quarantine blah blah blah).

But seriously, as usual this cake was all done today including deciding on the theme 😂 luckily I had red fondant and my friends dropped off balloons and sparklers 🧨.
